The Backlog from Hell: An Introduction

Welcome to the backlog from hell

My Steam backlog is large, actually no, it’s excessive. Years of Steam sales has left me with an overwhelming list of games on Steam that I am yet to even play, and now I’m on a mission to complete them all. Over the coming months and possibly years depending on time I plan to clear this backlog and through this blog, chart my progress and thoughts on each game as I complete it. In this post I’ll set out the games, some rules I’ve set for myself and other information I think is necessary for both myself and you the reader.

The List

Below is my list of games on Steam that I intend to complete throughout the course of this backlog clearing. I in fact own more games than this on Steam, however I have excluded several games from the list for reasons including completion on another platform (Mirrors Edge, Borderlands…), Online games with no or no true online (TF2, CS:S, Unreal Tournament games) and games I’ve already completed on Steam (Half Life 2, Portal 1 and 2, Limbo…). The rest however, I plan on completing. Now, lets get on to that list, in alphabetical order…however I may not play them in alphabetical order.

The Rules
  • I will complete each game to the end of the campaign, story or credits, whichever counts in each game, but not necessarily 100%.
  • I will try to aim for one game a week, however, due to time restrictions and the length of the games, some, like KOTOR, The Longest Journey and The Witcher may take multiple weeks to complete, so I will make a post on my progress through those games.
  • I will play all games in a series together and in order, for example, the Quake and Doom games will be played in consecutive weeks.
Other Notes

My laptop isn’t the most up to date system, and so some games may not run well, or run at all. I will try my hardest to get a game playable, however if this is not possible, I will have to skip a game. I may also be taking a break from the game for the odd week if I am away, or for big current gen releases that we will be focusing on in the show, such as Dishonored, Borderlands 2 and Assassins Creed 3.

Next Week

Now that the introduction and outline of what I aim to achieve is done, I best decide on  game to play for my first week. To ease myself in I shall choose something shorter and simpler, and that shall be…Toki Tori!

So thanks for reading folks, and I hope this is something that interests you as much as it interests me, and I hope to see you next Sunday when I’ll have hopefully completed Toki Tori.
